SharePoint Site Permissions Report using Excel

Using a Web query data connection to Microsoft Excel, you can generate a table of permissions applied to a number of different SharePoint sites by retrieving the data from the  “Advanced Permissions” page on each site.  The data connections can also be configured to update when the spreadsheet opens if required.

When a site collection expands to many sites, it can become difficult to manage sites without the use of third party reporting tools developed for this purpose, and it will be necessary when sensitive information is stored and managed in SharePoint when permissions are not inherited.   Using Excel will also save costs as it is in most cases available on workstations with access to SharePoint.
